How We Helped Our Client Achieve Over $125,000 in Savings

Efficient Engineering Shaves 47% off the Design Cost of our Client's Structure

Getting the Correct Dimensions
Our client initially worked with an independent engineer who failed to provide accurate measurements for their industrial building.
“The dimensions of the structure were quite far off, and the bays were oversized for the client’s needs,” explains Shane, one of our lead engineers.
By visiting the site in person, Shane measured the structure accurately. As a result:
- The building’s length was reduced from 30m to 21.5m.
- Bay widths were adjusted from 10m to 7.16m to suit the client’s specific application.
These adjustments immediately lowered the overall design cost, saving over 2.8m on each bay and 8.5m in building length.
Using Efficient Engineering
While reducing the size of the building was a significant factor, optimising the steel design had an even greater impact. Many in the industry rely on unnecessarily heavy components, driving up costs. Our steel construction services focus on engineering efficiency to minimise material waste without compromising strength.
Shane elaborates:
“The original engineer specified 380PFC steel, which weighs 55kg per metre. Our team revised this to 150 x 100 x 5 RHS steel, reducing the weight to just 18kg per metre.”

This change achieved:
- A significant reduction in the quantity of steel required.
- A lighter structure, which reduced transportation and installation costs.
- A lower carbon footprint due to the reduced material weight.
By using smart engineering principles, we delivered a strong, robust, and cost-effective solution tailored to the client’s needs.

"The original design cost was sitting at $270,000 however our new efficient design cost came out at just $143,000. That’s $127K back in our client’s pocket simply by taking a smart, sustainable approach to designing their structure.”

The Result – Massive Savings
Thanks to our efficient design approach, the total cost of the project dropped from $270,000 to $143,000 — a staggering $127,000 in savings.
“That’s $127K back in our client’s pocket simply by taking a smart, sustainable approach to designing their structure,” Shane explains.
This project is a testament to the value of working with an experienced commercial steel supplier that prioritises efficiency and sustainability.
